Attention to detail, high standards and a commitment to quality can be great professional assets that contribute to success. Sometimes, however, those same attributes can lead to a tendency to over-plan, overanalyze and overthink, keeping us from executing some of our great marketing ideas.

As small business owners, we sometimes need to implement a “fire, ready, aim” mentality. What do we mean by that? Sometimes our most innovative marketing strategies sit – on a shelf or in the back of our minds – because they seem too far out of the box, too difficult to plan or too complex to perfect.

While some planning and thoughtfulness will need to go into any marketing strategy you deploy, you don’t have to wait until a concept or product is 100% perfect before launching. You can analyze, run data and think any good idea to death, but you won’t get much done. In other words, don’t spend all your time aiming, just fire the gun already.

You can always make adjustments once you get a campaign up and running. Obviously, the more money you have invested in a campaign, the more planning it will require, but again, don’t overthink it. Keep it simple and just pull the trigger.
