There’s a particular song out now who’s lyrics resonate within me each time I hear it.  I’d like to share them with you to see if you feel the same.

“Never let your fears decide your fate.”

We encounter numerous decisions each and every day.  Some business related, others personal.  But for the sake of this blog, let’s focus on those decisions that are related to our business.  While the word “fear” can be a strong emotion, it can also be subtle enough to cause us to second guess or choose an alternate path.  If we let any amount of fear prevent us from doing what is ultimately beneficial to our business growth, then we have essentially let our “fears decide our fate.”  A healthy dose of fear or “butterflies” is a good thing.

Many years ago I had the privilege of working with the parents of a local news anchor.  I had made a comment that after so many years in the business he probably wasn’t nervous anymore. His father was quick to say that he still gets “butterflies” in his stomach before each airing, and his son knows that when that stops happening it will be time for him to retire.  Interesting.  That healthy dose of fear or “butterflies” helps to keep us sharp, energized, and engaged.  When it’s gone, quite the opposite happens.

Remember to keep your fears in check, acknowledge them – but never let them “decide your fate.”

Keep it disciplined.
