My parents always told me when I was growing up to be careful who I surrounded myself with.  If I hung around the wrong people, I would inevitably lower my own expectations and make choices that I may regret later on.  I know that they meant well, but at the time I didn’t fully comprehend the significance of those words. Today, at breakfast with one of my referral partners, their words returned to me.

Have you ever met someone that brought out the best in you?  Who silently challenged you to “raise the bar”?  Good leaders have the tendency to do that, just take a look at history. However, in our daily lives we encounter individuals who, on a smaller scale, do just that. When you encounter them in business, take note, for these are the people you want to surround yourself with.  Make them your:

  • Employees
  • Referral Partners
  • Personal Board of Directors
  • Mentors
  • Vendors

By raising the bar on yourself, you will inevitable draw other like-minded individuals to you.  This in turn will elevate your engagement in the marketplace and create more opportunities to grow your business.

Keep it targeted.
