I recently gave a presentation to a large group of professionals.  It had been a year since my last presentation to the same group of people, so I knew that I needed to spruce it up a bit – make it more memorable.  With help from my team at Dimalanta Design Group, we were able to do just that.

In each of our professions we see countless presentations.  Some memorable, some not so much.  What makes those that are memorable, memorable?  I would suggest that it is the “take-aways,” or the elements that you decide are worth incorporating into your own business.  And let’s face it, it isn’t every day that we decide to incorporate anything into our business.  So it must have been too good to dismiss.

Take a look at your current presentation.  What added value do you leave with your audience? What information do you provide them that actually empowers them to improve their business? We can educate our audience, enlighten them, or validate them. But what can we give them that causes a chain reaction of improvement?  What can we share that takes their current situation and allows them to accurately assess where they are and enables them to see where they want to go?

Providing value, with no strings attached, is priceless.  Too often, companies want to give only to receive something in return.  There is an agenda, and it is all to obvious. This is self-defeating because today’s buyer is much too wise.  If we give for the sake of giving, we understand the gift of receiving.  And with that authentic giving, we in turn receive credibility through the trust we build in others.  People do business with those they know, like, and trust.  Building trust is the cornerstone.  The question we need to ask ourselves with each presentation is –  are we providing true value in the eyes of our audience?  If the answer is no, then it is time to go back to the drawing board.

Keep it personal.
